It does very certainly work, we used the same method with my modest sisters when they were babies. They knew “more”, and “thank you”, and “please”, along with nouns such as “cookie”, “airplane”, “banana”, etc… It makes it so much simpler to communicate with them before they could really speak. I reckon it really helped them to learn to speak as they both started speaking earlier than the typical milestones.
