I аm doing a document fοr mу spanish class οn hοw vital thе school systems mаkе learning a foreign language іn Kentucky. I аm јυѕt curious tο know hοw іt goes іn уουr school. In ours wе аrе οnlу required 2 years οf spanish іn High School tο graduate.
I had to learn spanish and german for five whole years, was hell.
I was required to do 2 years of foreign language in HS. I elected Latin. Once I learned Latin, I could speak, read and write Spanish, French, Italian, and was much better at English. So I got 4 in 1.
It is ridiculous. In fourth grade, they start instruction children foreign language. They have about one hour a week. In 7th grade they have to take a nine weeks class. In 8th grade they have to take a full semester and at least one year on high school. I reckon it is terrible that anyone can require someone to take Spanish. Why not sign language or Arabic? How about we make it vital that people learn to speak English
I don’t know what the school district’s condition is but my 7 years ancient son is in second grade and the school (a magnate school) is part of a curriculum called the “international baccalaureate program”. He has been getting Spanish 2 to 3 times a week and French 1 time a week in view of the fact that kindergarten. He was really instruction Spanish to my wife and me last night.
I don’t know if this helps but the IB website is below.
im from England – London
Learnt french for 5 years and can make conversation in French but i speak 3 other languages fluently!
My Kurdish grandad use to say “1 language is the corresponding to 1 human brain/intellect” (cant translate properly but u get the thought)
Basically knowing different langauges and cultures is very valuable for yourself and your life.
Always keep a open mind
We did 2 years doing a term of Spanish, a term of French and a term of German. Then we had to choose two out of the three and we studied them for 3 years. Then as it was a condition at our school we had to choose at least one for GCSE which was 2 years.
In NJ high schools, (well at least at my school) they require you to take two years of a language but we had spanish and french all through middle school
In Serbia, children start learning a foreign language (usually English) in the 1st grade, and unofficially even before that, in kindergarten.
They’re given another foreign language in the 4th grade (French, German, Russian, Italian or Spanish).
In High School, they start with Latin in the 1st year.
The dynamics for all of these FL classes is a double session per week, with the exception of some special schools and High Schools where students have FL classes every day.
They recomend it but it is not mandotory but in are countys middle schools(carter) they have to take half a semester a year for a mandotory class (from kentucky also)
I’m currently living in Florida and attending a private school, but i’ve had loads of encounter at other high schools. Normally, 3 years of a consistent foreign language is required in high school. Sometimes, students are allowed to take the first few classes their 7th and 8th grade year for credits that count towards high school credits, just to get ahead.
Tuning in from the Ontario, Canada region, we start learning French at around Grade 6, and it is mandatory until Grade 10.
