I аm a nеw writer аnd i someday want tο write six fantasy books i hаνе bееn рlοttіng fοr a year now, bυt I’m worried I don’t hаνе thе writing ability fοr thаt уеt. I don’t want tο screw up mу tаlе, ѕο mυѕt i ѕtаrt out bу writing a simpler tаlе аbουt a Danish ancestor οf mine, іn peacefulness tο gain more encounter before I ѕtаrt mу hυgе tаlе?
I reckon that’s a fantastic thought–you’ve really thought this out!
If you have by no means written a book, I would start out small and learn the basics. Maybe take a writers course. There are many forms and styles of writing that you need to be with you before you must place your heart and soul into this project. After all, the difference between a best seller and an average book, is the way the tale is told.
WOW! you are dreaming to become an writer! cool! you must know then that climb to mount Everest is started my a single step and yes, you must start with small tales and if you don’t succeed in the first one then don’t worry! failure is the first step towards success!
Excellent thought. But, don’t you reckon it’s better for you to start writing a simple tale that can be part of your huge books. If you reckon you can write a simple one, I am sure you have a potential ability to write longer. What I see that you don’t have enough confidence to start the huge ones, right?
I’ve got a recommendation: read ‘Stephen King in writing’ – by Stephen King himself. It’s a excellent reference for people who plot to be writers.
Excellent luck, freind! When you are done, send me your books with your autographs on each of them say: To my dearest friend in Yahoo! Answers…lol!
read other books, that’s the best way to learn art, not is a homogenous class room. if you read from other authors (not just one because then you’ll be duplicating that one if you get many authors plus your skill already then you have a really new stylishness) you like you can incorporate their and your skills in there as well. i suggest start by writing a small tale then do some conception and question other authors that you my know from a community college or you can write to one, read some books in the subject you are plotting to write on from a variety of authors, then go back to your first tale and re-read it, building any corrections with syntax or imagery and such. it ends up being quite an encounter in view of the fact that you’ll see how much your writing improves.
It’s a lot of hared work to be a writer. A excellent place to start is writer’s digest (see link below.) They have a lot of excellent advice, not only for how to write, but how to sell what you write and the realities of writing for a living.
It doesn’t sound like you have written much yet. A small novel is generally 20-30k words, a long novel is 65k-100k. If you haven’t written this much already in small tales, character studies, plays, or scripts, the you need to get cracking.
Another place to get help is zoetrope.com. They are much more advanced than writer’s digest, but, imho, that’s where you really find out if you can hack it or not. They have a ranking logic where you can measure what you’ve written against other writers, and you can get tons of feedback. You need a thick skin though, as some of the comments are brutal (although right.) It’s excellent schooling for the real market.
As a all-purpose rule, few writers write a epic on their first, third, or thirtieth try. Most “new” writers get their first book published when they are in their late 30′s, after 10+ years of studying and practicing their craft.
One of the huge clues that you may not have what it takes is that you spend more time thinking about being a writer than really writing. Sorry to say this, but that is nearly the hallmark of someone who isn’t going to do make it.
