Really, she gets paid to make these videos. She’s not doing it from “the goodness of her heart.” Rather she is blatantly instruction things incorrectly and could care less because ExpertVillage is paying her to do it.
It is NOT common to mouth when signing. In fact, it is inappropriate. There are specific “non-manual signs” (mouth schedule) that have meaning. Thus “mouthing” words interferes with using these NMS. I would strongly suggest looking for other sources to learn ASL rather than from this woman.
I have a question:
Commonly, when using sign language, people mouth out the words so that the person can read your lips if they are new to signing, confused by your signing, etc. But does that apply to foreigners who sign? Must you mouth out the words at all, or would it just fail to differentiate them, in view of the fact that the language they are used to seeing spoken is different. It’s an unlikely event, but how would that go about?
